Norton stalker gets suspended sentence for sending victim’s love card

💕

A STALKER who sent unwanted Valentine’s Day cards to victims has been given a suspended sentence.

Christopher Allan Oldfield, 28, faces 10 weeks in prison if he breaks the law or fails to comply with his suspension for the next two years.

Last month, York Magistrates Court heard over three days that Oldfield made multiple phone calls and several text messages to an unwanted woman in addition to the Valentine’s Day card. He approached her directly in a village near Pickering and tried to talk to her. He called her twice more after her father told him to leave her alone.

Oldfield, of Dean Road, Norton, pleaded guilty to stalking. The 10-week jail term was suspended until March 2024 on the condition that he undertake 27 days of rehabilitation activities and 40 hours of unpaid work.

He is also subject to a two-year restraining order prohibiting him from having direct or indirect contact with the woman in any way, including through social media or third parties. He couldn’t go to any address where he thought she might live or work, or the two streets of Pickering and the village.

He must pay a statutory surcharge of £128 and prosecution costs of £85.
