The Ultimate Guide to Baby Shower Games
You’re hosting a baby shower for a baby boy or girl; have sent the invitations; you feel good about your theme and the decorations; you have food ideas covered — but what can you do to generate conversation and laughter when the cupcakes are gone? Baby shower games!
We have a list of some of the best baby games, some are classics and a few are modern and unique. There’s also been a new cool trend of crafting keepsake items right at the shower so we’ve included a few ideas for that, too!

1. JUST LIKE GRANDMA
Supplies Needed: Photos of relatives from both sides of the family, poster board, removable double-sided tape, paper and pens.
How This Game is Played: Collect pictures of relatives on both sides of the family – make sure you include great-greats, aunts, uncles and cousins too, as the fun is in trying to determine the relatives guests do not know! Number each of the photos, place them on poster board using removable double-sided tape and hang it on the wall. Have guests write down whether they think the person is related to mom or dad-to-be. The person with the most correct answers wins.
2. WHO’S WHO?
Supplies Needed: Baby photos of shower guests, poster board, removable double-sided tape, paper and pens.
How This Game is Played: Collect baby pictures of each of the guests before the party or have them bring their pictures to the party. Guests must determine who’s who.
3. DON’T SAY THAT!
Supplies Needed: Clothespins
How This Game is Played: Decide on a trio of words that cannot be spoken throughout the shower (mommy, bib, feeding, for example). Each guest receives a clothespin when they arrive at the party. Whoever uses the taboo words in conversation must give up their clothespin to the person who caught them. At the end of the party, the person with the most clothespins wins.
4. HOW MANY?
Supplies Needed: Diaper pins (can substitute pink, blue, or green pastel jelly beans) and clear baby bottle as well as a clipboard, paper and pens to record guests’ answers.
How This Game is Played: Place the diaper pins (or jelly beans) inside the baby bottle. Have guests write down how many they think are in the container. The person with the closest guess, without going over, wins.
5. BABY, THE PRICE IS RIGHT
Supplies Needed: Paper and pens.
How the Game is Played: Compile a list of many common items that baby will need, such as diapers, wipes, bibs, etc. Call out each item to the guests and have them mark down what they think the current retails price is. At the end of the list, have them add their answer. The guest with the closest total – without going over – wins.
6. GUESS THE BABY FOOD
Supplies Needed: 10 flavors of jarred baby food, paper and pens. (Optional: plastic spoons)
How the Game is Played: Remove labels from jars of baby food and number them. Have guests smell each jar to determine the flavor of food inside. They can record their guesses on a sheet of paper and the person with the most correct answers wins. (Note: If you would like to allow guests the opportunity to taste the baby food, be sure you have enough spoons so each guest only puts a fresh one in each jar.)
7. GUESS THE BABY ITEM #1
Supplies: Baby products and a diaper bag.
How the Game is Played: Gather at least a half dozen new baby products and put them into a diaper bag. Ask guests to guess what items are inside, without opening it. Whoever guesses the most correct items wins! Give the products and diaper bag as a gift to the guest of honor when you’re done!
8. GUESS THE BABY ITEM #2
Supplies: Brown paper bags with a letter on the outside and baby items that begin with that letter, paper, pencil.
How the Game is Played: Guests must guess what items are inside each bag. The one with the most correct answers wins
9. DIAPER ART
Supplies Needed: Disposable diapers and Sharpie markers.
How the Game is Played: Each guest writes advice, silly or sage, on the outside of a disposable diaper. When new mom is up in the middle of the night changing diapers (again!), she has something to grin about.
10. BABY BINGO
Supplies Needed: Bingo cards and markers.
How the Game is Played: Each guest receives a card with names of baby items. As mama-to-be opens a gift, the guests fill in their cards. Whoever fills in an entire row first, wins.
11. BABY SHOWER CHARADES
Supplies Needed: Small slips of paper.
How the Game is Played: Write baby-related topics on the slips of paper, such as “dirty diaper” or “naps”. Divide guests into teams. One person silently acts out the word(s) on the paper while the rest of the team members try to guess.
12. BABY ANIMAL NAME GAME
Supplies Needed: Pens and download this FREE printable game.
How the Game is Played: The game sheet has a columns with animal names and with what the babies are called. Hand it out to guests and have them match the baby with the mama. The person with the most correct answers wins.
13. MOMMY TUMMY MEASURE
Supplies Needed: Rolls of toilet paper.
How the Game Is Played: Have each guest take a wager at how many squares of toilet paper it will take to get all the way around the mama’s pregnant belly. Whoever is closest wins a prize — plus bragging rights!
14. DIAPER RACE
Supplies Needed: Rolls of toilet paper.
How the Game is Played: Divide guests into teams and give them each a roll of toilet paper. Once you yell “GO”, team use the toilet paper to wrap around one of their their teammates and create a diaper. The first team to finish their diaper by using the entire roll of toilet paper wins.
15. WHO KNOWS MOMMY BEST?
Supplies Needed: Paper and pens.
How the Game is Played: Write a list of features (such as eyes, hair, hands, etc.) and have two columns: Mom, Dad. Guests write if they think mom wants baby to have the traits of mom or dad.
16. TRASH CAN TOSS
Supplies Needed: Three diapers, three bean bags, blindfold, and a clean trashcan.
How This Game is Played: Tuck bean bags or something similar inside three diapers to give them a bit of weight. The blindfolded guest (it’s dark in the middle of the night!) must toss them into the trashcan, which is several feet away.
17. WHAT’S IN YOUR PURSE?
Supplies Needed: Pen and paper to record points.
How This Game is Played: The caller reads out a list of items, and guests earn a point for each one that’s in their handbag. Common items (lip gloss, brush, etc.) receive a point. More unusual items (hot wheel car, orthodontic rubber bands, etc.) have greater value. Highest points win.
18. NAME THAT TUNE
Supplies Needed: Paper and pens plus an iTunes or Spotify playlist with songs that contain the word “baby”.
How to Play this Game: Play a few bars of the beginning of each song. Guests write down the song title and the performing artist. The person with the most correct answers wins.
19. BABY FACE
Supplies Needed: Copies of photos of mom and dad-to-be, cut into strips; tape. Depending on size of guest list, enough for each guest or each table.
How to Play this Game: Whose nose/eyes/hair will baby have? Assemble your prediction of what baby will look like. Mom-to-be picks her favorite combination.
20. WHAT BEGINS WITH…
Supplies Needed: Paper and pen.
How to Play this Game: In three minutes, guests write one baby item for each letter of the alphabet, trying to guess which item mom-to-be wrote. The most correct answers win.
21. MY WATER BROKE!
Supplies Needed: Freeze miniature plastic babies in ice cubes pre-party.
How to Play this Game: Keep those beverages cold, but the winner is whoever melts their ice cube first to retrieve their baby and yells, “My water broke!”
22. BOBBING FOR WHAT? NIPPLES!
Supplies Needed: Depending on the size of the group, either one large tub filled with water and bottle nipples (not for the germophobic!), or individual tubs filled with water and nipples.
How to Play this Game: Remember bobbing for apples when you were a kid? This is the grown-up (?!) version. Whoever snags the most nipples using only their mouth—in the allotted time—is the winner.
23. DIAPER CHANGE #1
Supplies Needed: Blindfold, balloon, cloth diaper, diaper pins, stop watch.
How to Play this Game: Seasoned moms and dads say they can change a diaper with their eyes closed after all those late-night changes. Whoever takes care of business in the shortest time, without popping their balloon, proves their prowess.
24. DIAPER CHANGE #2
Supplies Needed: Baby dolls, diapers, wipes, powder, table, timer.
How to Play this Game: Divide guests into teams. Each team member must run to the “changing table” to un-diaper baby, wipe the bum, powder the bum, put a clean diaper on baby, run back to their team and hand off baby to the next person in line who repeats the whole process. The first team to have everyone change baby wins.
25. NAME THAT BABY #1
Supplies Needed: Paper, pencil.
How to Play this Game: Guests write down boy names that begin with each letter of the alphabet. Whoever gets through A to Z first, wins.
26. THIRSTY BABY
Supplies Needed: Enough baby bottles for each guest and water (or some other beverage). Timer.
How to Play this Game: Contestants drink as much as they can in one minute. The silliness of drinking from baby bottles makes it funny to watch.
27. STYLISH (OR NOT) BABY
Supplies Needed: Laundry basket filled with baby clothes (including socks, hats, bows, etc.), timer.
How to Play this Game: Players riffle through the laundry basket, attempting to put together as many complete outfits as possible in one minute.
28. BABY RATTLE
Supplies Needed: Two empty, clean soda bottles, small bag of gum balls for each guest. Pre-party, fill one of the bottles with gum balls. Attach the two bottles together at their necks with strong adhesive/duct tape = giant rattle. All gum balls remain in one bottle at game beginning.
How to Play this Game: Guests flip their “rattle” upside down and continuously shake so all the gum balls cascade into the opposite side of the rattle. It’s more challenging than it looks! First one finished is the winner.
29. TAKE A STROLL
Supplies Needed: Stroller, baby doll, obstacles such as traffic cones, yard statuary, lawn chairs, etc., start and finish lines, timer.
How to Play this Game: Each contestant stands behind the starting line, holding “baby”. When the timer starts, the contestant must strap baby into the stroller and push the stroller about the obstacles until they reach the finish line. A one-second penalty is added each time an obstacle is hit. If baby falls out of the stroller, that contestant is disqualified but the speediest time wins.
30. ASK YOUR MAMA
Supplies Needed: Paper, pencil.
How to Play this Game: Each player writes down a question new mama might have, such as “How do I deal with diaper rash?” or “When does the umbilical cord fall off?” Everyone turns their card over and passes it to the player on the left, then without looking at the new question, each person writes the answer to her original question on the back of the new card. Finally, take turns reading the question and answers out loud. For example: “How do I deal with diaper rash?” “It will fall off in about two weeks.” The card holder whose combo elicits the most laughter wins.
31. BABY JEOPARDY
Supplies Needed: Poster board with answers written in 25 panels, with five rows and five columns, just like in the regular Jeopardy game. Cover the answers with post-it notes, showing the dollar amounts. Categories might include labor, newborn trivia, nursery rhymes, baby gear, toddler time. etc. The party host keeps the answer sheet.
How to Play this Game: Divide guests into two teams; let them pick squares to answer. The host keeps score and the team with the most points wins.
32. PREGGER TWISTER
Supplies Needed: A regular Twister game, wrist weights, fanny packs, pillows—or get fancy and sew four faux pregnant bellies.
How to Play this Game: Good-natured guests put weights in their fanny packs and strap on the pack and a pillow around the waist (or tie on the faux belly) and follow the regular game rules. The honest-to-goodness pregnant mama should sit this one out!
33. SCRAMBLE
Supplies Needed: Pre-party, make a list of typical baby items (bottle, rattle, onesie, etc.). Scramble letters in each word and make copies for each guest.
How to Play this Game: Guests have one minute to unscramble the mixed-up words.
34. SPIT THE BINKY
Supplies Needed: Enough binkies for each guest.
How to Play this Game: It’s just like it sounds: who can spit the binky the farthest!
35. PICK IT UP
Supplies Needed: Sturdy straws (or chopsticks) for each guest, pacifiers, timer.
How to Play this Game: Guests use a straw held in their mouth to pick up as many pacifiers as possible in one minute.
36. SEPARATION ANXIETY
Supplies Needed: Enough colored candies and cups for each player. That would be 10 each of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue candies plus five cups color-coded to match the candies for each player. Timer.
How to Play this Game: Each guest’s candies are in a pile under a plastic cup. The five color-coded cups are arranged in a semi-circle in front of the player. The object is to pick up the candies and place them in the correct matching color cup, but it must be done with only one hand and the candies must be placed according to the color order of the cups. And all 50 candies need to be placed within a minute.
37. WHERE’S THAT DIAPER PIN?
Supplies Needed: Blindfold, gallon zip-lock bag, two pounds of long grain rice, package of multiple sized safety pins, timer.
How to Play this Game: Each blindfolded contestant uses their hands to pull out as many (closed) diaper (safety) pins as possible in one minute. Put the pins back and pass it to the next player. Whoever pulls out the most pins is the winner.
38. FEED ME
Supplies Needed: Blindfolds, jars of baby food, spoons, adult-sized bibs, timer.
How to Play this Game: The blindfolded team member must feed her partner an entire jar of baby food. Record the time it takes. The pair with the fastest time wins. Remember to take pictures.
39. TIE ONE ON
Supplies Needed: Balloons, shoes that tie (can be guest’s own shoes or have a collection of shoes ready), timer.
How to Play this Game: Players blow up balloons and place them under their shirts, a la pregnant belly. Then they sit, put on shoes, and tie them. Whoever does it the fastest—without popping the balloon—wins.
40. MAKE A BABY
Supplies Needed: Small cans of playdough, cupcake liners.
How to Play this Game: Guests have three minutes to fashion a dough baby and place him in his “bed”. Prizes go to the cutest and ugliest babies.
41. MEMORY GAME
Supplies Needed: Tray, baby themed items, paper, pens, timer.
How to Play this Game: Show each guest the tray arranged with baby items. Remove the tray. Guests must write down all the items they can remember within two minutes.
42. PERFECT TIMING
Supplies Needed: Timer, gifts.
How to Play this Game: As mama-to-be opens gifts, set the timer for random intervals. Whoever’s gift is being opened when the timer goes off wins a prize. Repeat.
43. BABY’S FIRST PORTRAIT
Supplies Needed: Notecard, markers.
How to Play this Game: Without looking, guests hold their card on their head and draw baby’s picture. Mama chooses her most and least favorite drawings.
44. CHILDREN’S BOOK EMOJI PICTIONARY
Supplies Needed: For each guest, copy of a list of children’s book titles depicted by emoji, pencils.
How to Play this Game: This twist of traditional Pictionary combines the nostalgia of favorite childhood books with contemporary fun emojis.
45. TINKLE
Supplies Needed: Ping-pong balls, balloons, canning jars, timer.
How to Play this Game: Sporting a balloon belly, each contestant also holds a ping-pong ball between the knees and waddles to the finish line where she must deposit the ping-pong ball in the jar, without using her hands.
46. WORD GAME
Supplies Needed: Poster board, markers.
How to Play this Game: Write your chosen phrase on each poster board (for example, baby’s full name). Each team has five minutes to write as many words as they can from the letters in the phrase. The team with the most words wins.
Baby Shower Keepsake Games
47. SIGN THE ONESIE
Supplies Needed: Newborn onesie, Sharpie markers and a shadow box picture frame.
Description: This is a great alternative to a guest book. Choose a newborn-sized onesie — it can be plain or have an adorable and loving saying on it. Have guests use the Sharpie markers to sign the onesie. After the baby shower, place it in a shadow box so it can displayed in the baby’s nursery.
48. DESIGNER BIBS
Supplies Needed: Bibs as well as fabric markers. Ribbon or rope for “clothesline” and clothespins.
How to Play This Game: Guests can “design” custom bibs for baby by drawing on them with fabric markers. Display the finished pieces on a ribbon clothesline during the rest of the party.
49. CUSTOM WOOD BLOCKS
Supplies Needed: Plain wooden blocks, craft paint, or permanent markers.
How to Play this Game: More surfaces waiting for guest embellishment! Blocks can become nursery decorations or toys. Use letters to spell out a favorite quote on baby’s wall.
50. QUILT SQUARES
Supplies Needed: Quilting squares of fabric in nursery room colors, and fabric pens.
How to Play this Game: Of course, this activity only works if there is someone willing to piece the squares into a pillow or baby-sized quilt after the shower! Have guests can decorate squares at the shower, using fabric pens or paint. Alternatively, squares can be sent with the invitations so guests can bring their finished pieces to the shower. Be sure to give instructions if this is to be sewn, embroidered or drawn on.
51. TIME CAPSULE
Supplies Needed: Pretty bottle or trinket for the time capsule, as well as pens and note cards for predictions.
Description: Have guests pen wishes and predictions of what the new baby will grow to be. The notes are sealed and not read until the 18th birthday. An alternate version is each guest chooses a number from 1-18 (or however many guests there are). Whatever number they choose represents that future birthday for the baby. The guests write a birthday greeting and wish for the child to open on that birthday.
52. FAMILY TREE
Supplies Needed: Drawing of a naked tree, fine-tipped Sharpie, three ink pads in shades of green, wipes.
Description: Guests make thumbprint “leaves” on the tree and sign their name as a remembrance of the occasion.
53. MONOGRAM GUEST BOOK
Supplies Needed: Large first initial of baby’s name, painted in desired color, plus Sharpies.
Description: Guests sign their names and perhaps a short note on the initial, which becomes a cherished nursery wall hanging.
54. ALPHABET BOOK
Supplies Needed: Single sheets of paper with one alphabet letter, Sharpies, colored pencils.
Description: Guests choose a letter (or letters) and draw something that letter represents. After the party, laminate the sheets and use a binder ring or notebook to hold the pages together.
Great Baby Shower Ice Breakers
Let’s face it, baby showers can be uncomfortable when you bring together guests from both sides of the family, who don’t really know each other. These games don’t have real winners but they are great at helping attendees get to know each other!
55. TAKE A SQUARE
Supplies Needed: Rolls to toilet paper.
How the Game Is Played: Pass around a roll of toilet paper and have guests take off as many squares as they would like. But don’t tell them why! Once everyone is done, break the news that for every square they need to tell one thing about themselves to the group for ever square of toilet paper they chose. You may need to be a little forgiving to those people who take a lot. 😉
56. WHO DID IT?
Supplies Needed: None.
How the Game is Played: Talk to the grandparents-to-be before the party; find out what mom and dad did by a certain age (for example, walked at eight months, learned to read by age three, etc.). Guests must guess who did what.
57. BABY STATS PREDICTIONS
Supplies Needed: Pens, paper, and a calendar.
How the Game is Played: Guests predict boy/girl, weight, length, time born, etc., OR guests simply write their name on the calendar day on which they think the baby will be born.
58. LET ME TELL YOU
Supplies Needed: Pens and note cards.
How the Game is Played: Give each guest a note card and pen so they can offer their advice and best wishes to the new parents and baby. Share what was written with the group or save for mom-to-be after the shower.
59. WANNA BET?
Supplies Needed: Paper, pencil, a bit of cash and a little patience.
How to Play this Game: Each guest writes her own name and the date she predicts baby will be born. Hand it over to the hostess with a designated amount of $1-$10. After baby arrives, determine who came closest to baby’s arrival date. There’s your winner. Gift her with the cash or an equivalent gift card.
