Alhamdulillah, we are upon a great month; The month of infinite mercy and forgiveness. The time has come to focus on our Ibaadat and Duas and escape this Dunya for a while.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (R) that the Messenger of Allah () said:

“There are three whose supplications are not turned back: A just ruler, and a fasting person until he breaks his fast. And, the supplication of one who has been wronged is raised by Allah up to the clouds on the Day of Resurrection, and the gates of heaven are opened for it, and Allah says, ‘By My Might, I will help you (against the wrongdoer) even if it is after a while.'” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Abu Hurairah (R) said; ‘The Messenger of Allah () said:

“When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained up.”‘ (Sunan an-Nasa’i 2099)

Special Duas We Can Make This Ramadan:

Dua is the weapon of the believer, his/ her shield, armor, and protection. Here, some main ones are listed, among numerous others.

Dua for sighting the new moon:

When we see the new moon or hear the announcement that the blessed month of Ramadan has started, we feel excitement and joy, peace, and serenity. We start our special Duas.

“O Allah, bring it over us with blessing and faith, and security and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3451)

Dua for Suhoor:

“I intend to keep the fast today for the month of Ramadan.”

Dua for Iftaar:

“Thirst has gone, the arteries are moist, and the reward is sure if Allah wills.”

Dua for Lailatul-Qadr:

Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:

‘I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He () replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka’ afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).”‘(At-Tirmidhi)

Quranic, Prophetic, and Personal Duas:

Besides the above mentioned Duas, there are Quranic, Prophetic as well as personal Duas that one can make during Ramadan:

Narrated by Anas (R):

The most frequent invocation of The Prophet () was: “O Allah! Give to us in the world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6389)

Ibn ‘Umar (R) narrated, ‘The Messenger of Allah () used to supplicate, saying, “O Allah! I seek refuge in you from the withholding of your favor, the decline of the good health you have given, the suddenness of your vengeance, and from all forms of your wrath.” (Sahih Muslim 2739)

“O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, in this world and in the Hereafter, what I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from all evil, in this world and in the Hereafter, what I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the good that Your slave and Prophet has asked You for, and I seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your slave and Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed, and I seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. And I ask You to make every decree that You decree concerning me good.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3846)

The Messenger of Allah () would often say, Ya Muqallibal-qulub, thabbit qalbi ‘ala dinik

“O Changer of the Hearts! Strengthen my heart upon Your Religion.” (At- Tirmidhi)

“Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You].” (Quran, 7:126)

“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.” (Quran, 3:8)

“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.” (Quran, 46:15)

My Personal Daily Duas:

Make a journal of personal Duas to do daily at night or after Salah. Here is an example:

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Salutations and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad (), his family and companions.

Oh, Allah, I submit myself entirely to You. Teach me how to love You in a way that You would have me love.

O Allah, heal me, guide me, nurture me, and bless me. Help me walk in the path of righteousness so that You may always be pleased with me.

Oh Allah, protect our children. Protect their bodies, minds, and emotions from all kinds of evil and harm. Oh Allah, I pray that You protect them from accidents, diseases, injuries, and any other afflictions and abuse. Draw them close to You for protection from every ill and evil influence of our society. Oh Allah, grant them the best of company — people who will inspire them to love and obey You.

O Allah, Give all Muslims guidance & rahma.

O Allah, help us memorise the Quran.

O Allah, provide us Halal Rizq.

O Allah, protect us from all evil and the shayateen.

O Allah, forgive our sins, cover us with Your Rahma & Your Mercy.

O Allah, help me learn the Arabic language.

Oh Allah, all of my brothers and sisters who are suffering around the world, ease their suffering, forgive their sins, and grant them Paradise.

Oh Allah, do not let me turn away from You, no matter how many trials and difficulties come my way.

O Allah, help us do deeds that will take us to Jannatul Firdaus.
