Baby Shower Crafts, Decorate Onesies for Mom-To-Be

Decorate onesies for a cute baby shower craft idea! Not only does decorating onesies provide a shower activity for guests to enjoy, but it also provides the parents-to-be with a supply of one-of-a-kind onesies for their little bundle of joy. I absolutely love this idea and love that it can be customized for your shower theme.

Decorate Onesies Station at Baby Shower!

My friend Kara of Lillian Hope Designs recommends Gerber Onesies with Tulip Fabric Markers. I’ve linked a few of my favorite craft supplies below, but I had to share the adorable sign she made for the crafting station. I love the rainbow of colors!

Baby Shower Crafts: Decorate Onesies Station

  • Create a decorating station to the side of the shower and include all the items needed! You could use a side table, coffee table, or extra fold-out table with a simple covering. Use clothespins to hang up the onesies to let them dry, make room for more guests to decorate, and show off the cute designs.
  • Include a variety of sizes of plain onesies from newborn to 3-6 month.
  • Don’t limit yourself! Decorate bibs (like these pictured below from BabyMine) and burp cloths too.

  • You can decorate onesies with any number of different crafting mediums. I’ve outlined four of my favorite below!

HEAT TRANSFER for Decorating Onesies

You can use a craft cutting machine like the Silhouette Cameo to cut out various letters, shapes, and designs from heat transfer vinyl. You could even decorate onesies with the baby’s monogram cut out of heat transfer vinyl. You can even find metallic HTV (heat transfer vinyl)! Let guests pick our letters, numbers, or other designs and iron them on. I made my daughter’s 3rd birthday party dress using this method, read the DIY tutorial here.

FABRIC MARKERS For Decorating Onesies

These fabric markers here on Amazon come highly recommended, and I love the color options! It’s good to keep in mind that while many people will gravitate towards the typical “baby” colors of blue and pink when they decorate onesies, it’s nice to have lots of color options so guests can get creative and the onesies will all look unique.

IRON ON APPLIQUES For Decorating Onesies

Similar to HTV, you can iron on appliques to create very professional looking onesies! Keep in mind that the appliques are more expensive, so you might want to just get a few and add these in to a mix of fabric markers or HTV. Here are some cute (and FREE) iron-on appliques to bookmark (pictured above) with fabric transfer, she has some great designs and tips!

FABRIC PAINTS For Decorating Onesies

Fabric paints (I like this set) allow for the most creativity when it comes to decorating onesies but keep in mind they are a little messier as well. Be sure to have paper towels available!
