Asahi Kasei team spirit of the year

The Asahi Kasei Team Spirit Award rewards those organisations which achieved outstanding feats in 2021 or overcame adversity through sheer grit and determination from those often unsung heroes behind the scenes.

We selected four special moments from the season and put them into a video compilation below. Now we want you to vote for your favourite. The nominations are:

Rally Estonia organising team

After a near six-month Coronavirus pause, the WRC roared back in Estonia in September. A late addition to the calendar, organisers had just 63 days to prepare, understand the intricacies of running a WRC counter for the first time and pave the way for hosting a Covid-safe event. The rally was a huge success and their reward is a slot on the 2021 fixture list.

Toksport World Rally Team

Everyone likes an underdog. The privately-run German team took on works entries from Hyundai Motorsport and M-Sport Ford among others in the FIA WRC 2 Championship for Teams. Spearheaded by three wins from Pontus Tidemand at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia, Toksport sealed the title with one round in hand.

Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team

Hyundai sealed back-to-back manufacturers’ world titles in a tense finale at ACI Rally Monza. Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak led the way with a rally win each, but Hyundai’s decision to rotate the third car between Dani Sordo, Craig Breen and Sébastien Loeb was key. Sordo won in Sardinia while Breen and Loeb also bagged podiums.

M-Sport Ford World Rally Team

Carlos Sainz, Colin McRae, Marcus Grönholm, Petter Solberg and Sébastien Ogier – world champions all and contributors to a remarkable record for the British squad. M-Sport Ford celebrated its 250th consecutive points finish in Monte-Carlo, a run which began there 18 years ago. Since then 22 drivers and 28 co-drivers have contributed to a magnificent tally.
