55 Best Christmas Towns in USA

It’s been said that there’s no place like home for the holidays, but we have a feeling our list of the best Christmas towns—which are towns across the country that really get in the holiday spirit with the best Christmas light displays, holiday decorating, holiday craft fairs, and other fun festivities that should definitely be on this year’s Christmas bucket list—might convince you otherwise. You might be staying closer to home this Christmas, but these festive towns are worth a spot on your future travel bucket list.

We know what you’re thinking, of course. You’re veritably obsessed with the holiday, from the Christmas cookies to the outdoor Christmas decorations to belting out classic Christmas songs; what could we possibly tell you here that you don’t already know? A lot, that’s what! From wine country to Myrtle Beach, we bet there’s a hidden gem somewhere in here you’ve never even heard of, let alone laid eyes on. You’re probably not familiar with Santa Claus, Indiana, for instance—but believe it or not, the town has dubbed itself “America’s Christmas Hometown.” And we’ll guess you’ve never touched down in a little town called North Pole, Alaska, right? There, the mayor’s actual name is Santa Claus and the streets are decorated in red and white all the way through to New Year’s Eve (and sometimes all year) long.

We know, we know: It sounds like something out of one of your favorite winter movies. But these towns are for real—and all you have to do to witness their Hallmark Christmas movie-worthy magic is book your trip. Just be sure to check websites for the latest updates on 2021 events, as some may be effected or cancelled due to coronavirus precautions.

Where do Southern Californians go to get the Christmas spirit? PLAN YOUR TRIP

47

Santa Claus, IN

Prizes are given out for categories such as best animation and originality—some owners are even known to spend months (and up to $50,000!) decorating.

PLAN YOUR TRIP

55

Dyker Heights, Brooklyn

Okay, okay. It’s not technically a small town, but Dyker Heights, a neighborhood in South Brooklyn, shares a lot of traits with small towns—loyalty, pride, close-knit families and a deep, slightly competitive affection for Christmas lights. Residents of this walkable Italian-American enclave erect intricate and spectacular displays on and around their homes. Strolling around Dyker Heights will convince you that there’s a small town lurking in the heart of the big city.
