‘Worm Moon’ Glows in Evening Sky West of Sacramento
The third full moon of the year, known as the “Worm moon”, or the Holi festival moon in India, was visible in the sky just west of Sacramento on March 28.This footage, by Constantia Oomen, shows the moon rising shortly before 8 pm.According to NASA, the moon, which NASA said could be classed as a supermoon by some definitions, appeared at its fullest on Sunday and would be visible overhead until Tuesday, March 30.The moon’s name is thought to refer to earthworms again becoming visible as the ground thaws out in spring, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. In India, the moon corresponds with the Holi festival, marking the start of spring.
