Woman’s reaction to boyfriend’s handmade Valentine’s Day gift faces backlash: ‘You should be ashamed’

A woman is furious that her boyfriend didn’t spend enough on her on Valentine’s Day.

She joined the Reddit “Am I A******? (AITA)” forum for help. Her boyfriend has two sons from a previous relationship. He usually buys her jewelry for gift-giving occasions, but this year, he made her a wooden frame with a family portrait. Now, she’s frustrated because she wants a necklace.

“I’ve been with my boyfriend for two years, a single father of two boys,” she wrote. “He has a decent job and a decent income and takes woodworking as a hobby. On Valentine’s Day, birthdays and all the other celebrations he sends me most of the jewellery and I buy him his favourite small gadgets or sports equipment.

“I bought him sneakers this Valentine’s Day. I found out today that he gave me a wooden framed photo of him, me and the kids. I gotta say, I wasn’t excited about it. When I told When my boyfriend got my honest opinion (I didn’t want to speak, but he pushed me), he couldn’t believe it was my reaction.”

She tells him the frame isn’t expensive enough, but he doesn’t understand what the problem is.

“I pointed out that he had at least the money to buy a $200 necklace,” she explained. “But he said that when all he did was give me a special gift, it was a little out of place for me to imply he was cheap.” [he] Also got the kids to help and put a lot of thought and effort into it because they saw me as family. I should applaud this.

“I said I was but still thought he could add the necklace as a great combination, but he got more pissed and said he didn’t understand why I would do it for me like he did with him and the kids. We went back and forth about it Walked around, breakfast was ruined. He went upstairs and refused to speak to me. Since asking for my opinion, I think he exaggerated it and I don’t know if he has any right to be angry with me now.”

Redditors think this woman is completely wrong.

“You should be ashamed of your reaction,” said one user.

Another wrote: “Get over yourself and appreciate what these people have before you lose them.”

“You sound very egocentric and materialistic,” someone added.
