Valentine’s Day “Chocolate Burger” at Rakuten

Lotteria is a popular Japanese fast food chain with branches in East and Southeast Asia. I went to Lotteria once when I was a kid in Korea and I remember really loving it (though it was like 25 years ago, ouch). Japan Today Lotteria is reportedly releasing a special limited-time addition for Valentine’s Day, and it’s definitely something you won’t see in the U.S. anytime soon.
The new product is a sandwich, which Lotteria calls it Chocolate Burger. However, receiving one is a little harder as you have to jump through some hoops to get one. For one, the burgers are only available in three locations, with only 214 in each location. Every interested customer needs to follow Lotteria Japan’s Twitter account in order to retweet tweets containing promotions. They then have to show it to an employee who will check the forwarding and finally hand over the burger.
But the thing is, the sandwich isn’t for you. It’s just a kit with hamburgers and chocolate bars. This blend is called “Valentine Ghana Lotte Ghana Chocolate Burger”.
Ghana is the brand of chocolate bars used in the sandwiches (made by Korean brand Lotte Confectionery); I bought one from a nearby Korean grocery store a while back and I have to say, it was pretty good. No bells and whistles, it’s just a regular chocolate bar. However, I think it’s a really fun way to get customers to tweet about you on social media. If the “burger” sold out at all three locations, it would be 642 tweets promoting Lotteria in Ethereum, not to mention people retweeting it themselves.
While I personally think the burger could use a few other things, even a little butter, I still think the idea is kind of cute. Small gifts for Valentine’s Day never hurt, chocolate is all you can eat.
How would you improve a chocolate burger?
