Valentine’s Day 2022: Flowers, order early and be prepared to pay more

💕

CHICAGO (WLS) – If you’re planning to send flowers on Valentine’s Day, you should order early and be prepared to pay more.

“Order early and get flowers delivered before the weekend,” advises Margie Milovich of LaSalle Flowers.

No matter what you do, don’t wait until next Monday, warns the longtime manager of the North River florist.

“You’d have everyone wake up on Super Bowl Sunday and say, ‘It’s Valentine’s Day,’ so we’re really getting a ton of last-minute orders ready for a ton of doorsteps,” she said.

LaSalle Flowers is now part of Ashland Addison Florist. The 90-year-old business also recently acquired another company that lost customers during the pandemic.

Justin Sheffield, great-grandson of the original owner and now co-owner, said they had seen delays, shortages and price changes during the pandemic, but still had the desire to send flowers. He added that while supplies for Valentine’s Day were better this year than last year, they cost more to buy products, some of which may be felt by customers.

“We can still get whatever we need, but it will take a little longer and it will be more expensive,” he said.

Labor shortages also make it difficult to find delivery drivers, another reason to order early. The co-owners of Ashland Addison said they may need to use external services in the coming days.
