A Valentine’s Day couple devoured steak, lobster and “countless bottles of wine” at a pub before leaving without paying, leaving owners in shock.

The couple pocketed a “huge” £179.20 bill at their mill in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, on Monday night.

According to Teesside Live, one of the bar’s owners, Alex Cook, warned the couple, who were caught on camera, and gave them a deadline to hand over the cash before going to the police station.

The award-winning pub posted on Tuesday: “The lovely couple spent a fortune, including filet mignon and lobster, and plenty of bottles of wine.

“While we’re sure it was an honest mistake that you left without paying, please pay your bill by 4pm today.

“You’re sitting across from the camera, and the CCTV couldn’t be clearer. Happy Valentine’s Day, eh.”

In an interview with the Mirror, Alex confirmed that he had approached the couple and demanded payment.

Eventually, the lady called, checked out, paid by card, and left no tip.

The couple’s receipts show they started off with mussels, Thai red chicken curry, half a lobster, a filet mignon with pepper sauce and a halloumi fries.

Their food was washed away by a large glass of Coke and four bottles of Zinfandel.

Some followers were keen for the pub to name and shame the couple for their antics, and many more were keen to see if they finally paid off.

One follower Tricia Davis said: “No need, business is struggling enough, if you can’t pay to get out, don’t go out, it’s so wrong, I feel bad for the staff, imposing so much on them Big pressure, its cheeky bottom right corner.

“They should go to Tesco and have a meal for £10.”

Katie Platt added: “Omg! Had a lot of alcohol on school nights. No wonder they ‘forgot’ to pay.”

Alex confirmed the bill was resolved, but added that the couple had also been permanently banned from the establishment.

A lot of people were impressed with how the bar was handled.

Emma Gaulter said: “They want to thank you for your understanding.

“Most businesses send CCTV to police, or at least put it on social media.

“I’m glad you got the money.”

John Phillips added: “You’ve been calm and restrained, very smart about the whole bad situation. Well done.”
