PARKVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) — With Valentine’s Day less than 10 days away, small businesses in downtown Pikeville are helping those who come to find the perfect gift for that special someone.

“You’ll be able to find things that are handcrafted, locally made or different,” said Jasmine Meade, owner of Appcycled. “Everyone likes something a little different, especially when you’re giving and receiving.”

You won’t find the typical oversized teddy bears and chocolate hearts in a downtown store, but you’ll have something personal and unique.

“I always say shops small shops, locals, and if you’re having a hard time picking things, go downtown,” Mead said.

These small businesses are also gearing up for shopping. Many stores are hosting Valentine’s Day events on February 12th. Including the Pink Pig Yarn Shop, which is running a class on crocheting hearts.

“Having a date night, it’s a little date night,” says Sarah Starr, owner of Peppa Pig Yarn Shop. “You can come here and have a class with your lover, or bring your friends for a ‘Gal-entine’ night, and it’s all a lot of fun.”

Many other stores have Valentine’s Day sales and events through February 14, such as Appcycled’s Comedy Night, Broken Throne Brewing’s Beer and Chocolate Pairing, and 225’s “Shop, Candy, and Sip” Shoppes.

“These stores offer a lot of experience and a lot of fun and experiential education, sometimes educational, sometimes just fun,” Starr said. “So it’s good to come to the city centre, enjoy yourself and have a good time.”

You can find more Valentine’s Day events on the City of Pikeville’s website or on the businesses’ social media pages.
