Ottawa redoing Valentine’s Day this year, celebrating again this March
đź’•
Ottawa on February 14 wasn’t filled with the love the city deserved this year as protesters took over the city center.
On Wednesday, Ottawa city councillors approved March 14 for the city’s redo of Valentine’s Day.
On Wednesday afternoon, City Councilman Mathieu Fleury tweeted: “Reworked #ValentinesDay for #Ottawa on March 14, 2022.”
“Thanks to City Council for the support. Motion by @KeithEgli & I.”
The motion states that Valentine’s Day in Ottawa is different for businesses and residents alike because of “occupation.”
Additionally, Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for people to “get together with loved ones, enjoy winter activities and support local businesses”.
Tourism Ottawa has released a hashtag reminding Ottawas what they love most about the city. Users on Twitter have been using “#Ottawalove” to share their thoughts.
The Ottawa Business Improvement Area Coalition commented on Fleury’s tweet: “Book! #ottawalove.”
This Twitter user loves Ottawa’s Valentine’s Day redo. They tweeted: “I love this. Ottawa is redoing Valentine’s Day because of the team! Maybe call it #ValentinesDeux?”
Another joked on Twitter: “Everyone: This year couldn’t be worse.”
“City of Ottawa: How about two Valentine’s Days?”

“Our heart-shaped city needs a little love” is another action that Fleury is focusing on.
One Twitter user commented on the statement: “My ♥️ just melted a little. Thanks @KeithEgli and @MathieuFleury.”
Ottawa’s Valentine’s Day redo brings hope and joy to residents and businesses, and it couldn’t come at a more opportune time as the city slowly reopens and the Liberty team is slowly leaving Ottawa.
