In Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Hangzhou, fewer couples registered for marriage on St. Valentine’s Day this year than on February 22, as many couples thought it would be a “day of love” because the number 2 sounds like ” Love”.

On Valentine’s Day on Monday, 945 couples registered for marriage in Shanghai, and 1,955 couples booked their marriage on February 22, according to media reports citing data from the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

Valentine’s Day has always been a popular day for couples to register their marriage as they search for love and good luck on the auspicious day. But this year, it suffered an unexpected chill. “February 22, 2022 has a super good date, who wants to go after February 14? After all, it’s for commemoration, so it’s natural to choose the best day,” one netizen wrote on social media. road.

While some couples are looking for lucky numbers, some don’t care. Another wrote: “It doesn’t matter which day you register your marriage, what matters is your quality of life after marriage.”

In Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in eastern China, the situation is very similar to Shanghai. In Hangzhou’s Gongshu district alone, 90 couples booked on Monday, compared with 180 on Feb. 22, local media reported. However, bookings on Monday were still higher than usual.

According to media reports, in 2020, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, 512 couples in Shanghai booked their marriage registrations on Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s Day last year, Shanghai’s marriage registration center was closed.
