Man arrested for fatal shooting on New Year’s Day in Tallahassee
Tallahassee, Florida (WCTV) – The Tallahassee Police Department has arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a fatal New Year’s Day shooting on Okaloosa Street, according to a press release.
The statement said officers arrested Nathan Lewis on Sunday after they determined he had shot and killed the victim after he got into an argument with him. Police say Lewis shot the victim while he was standing outside his car. TPD says the victim then got back into his car to get away from it and crashed into a nearby fence.
Police say Lewis fled the scene to a nearby house, and people there called the police because of Lewis’ erratic behavior.
Responding officers and the EMS service tried to save the victim’s life, but he died at the scene, according to TPD.
“Investigators were quickly able to determine that the man who entered the house was linked to the shooting, and he was taken into custody without further incidents,” the statement read.
Lewis was transferred to the Lyon County Jail for second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
TPD says if you have a tip for its officers, call the department at 850-891-4200. You can stay anonymous with your advice by calling Big Bend Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
