LAKE Findlay — Pet owners who think they have the sweetest companion ever have a chance to show everyone.

The Alexander Findley Community Library in Findley Lake is hosting a Sweetest Pets Valentine’s Day contest. All anyone needs to do is submit a photo of their beloved pet and wait until February 14th.

“I think a lot of people have the winter blues this time of year,” said Michelle Varner, deputy library manager. “It’s nice to have something sweet and heartwarming this time of year.”

Those wishing to have pets in can bring their photos in person to the library, which is located at the Community Center at 2883 North Findlay Road. Those unable to bring photos to the library may choose to submit photos online using the library’s Facebook page, which has a thread for posting pictures.

“There are really no rules other than one photo per person,” Varner said.

Pictures submitted online will be printed and all entries will be displayed on the boat in the library’s children’s section.

“Everyone can come in and see this collection of sweet pets,” Varner said.

There is also no need to worry about biased judges. On February 14 at 1 p.m., all entries will be put together, and the winner will be drawn at random, Varner said.

“Sometimes our animal friends get forgotten about this holiday season,” she said. “But this year we want to see your fluffy, smelly, scaly and/or squishy pet Valentine’s Day.”

The awards will follow classic Valentine’s Day traditions.

“It could be candy, it could be pet treats,” Varner said.

The real reward, Varner says, is the joy that comes from seeing all these pets. “Cute pet photos make me happy, so I hope they make other people happy too,” she said.
