Joe Biden’s Valentine’s Day 2022 post to Jill is a lovely throwback
Ah, Valentine’s Day: close your windows, lock your doors, and throw away the keys to your heart. Just kidding – love is in the air, and it’s felt across the country, including politicians in the White House. President Joe Biden’s Valentine’s Day post to his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, has a very cute throwback photo that’s sure to give you warm fluff.
“You are the love of my life, Gilly,” Biden wrote in a Feb. 14 Instagram post, alongside an old movie photo of the young couple sitting together and smiling on the beach. Jill is poised in front of Joe, and the two are absolutely radiant. “Happy Valentine’s Day,” he added. This charming first couple has one of the most touching relationship stories in White House history. The two met in 1975 Insider, when Biden’s brothers introduced them to each other. While Jill disagreed with marrying Biden immediately, she admitted the sparks were always there. “Joe often tells people that I didn’t agree to marry him until he proposed to me for the fifth time,” she said in a speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. “The truth is, I loved him from the beginning.”
A few hours later, on Feb. 14, the official @POTUS Instagram account tweeted another lovely tribute, showing a video montage of POTUS and FLOTUS in and out of the White House set to the acoustic cover of Tina Turner’s “The Best.” Come to the romantic music and stay to see Joe surprise Jill with a bouquet of flowers.
Before meeting, both Biden and Jill considered the consequences of their previous relationship. Biden’s first marriage ended in tragedy when his wife Nelia Hunter Biden and daughter Naomi Biden were killed in a car crash. Jill was also going through some turmoil of her own, albeit less tragically — when she met Biden in 1975, she was in the midst of a tumultuous divorce from first husband Bill Stevenson. Still, the two hit it off when they first started dating, and after Jill’s first marriage ended in a civil divorce in May 1975, she and Biden married in June 1977. Biden’s Valentine’s Day post alone shows how happy the couple was.
Now, in 2022, their relationship seems stronger than ever. The two have lived through the best and worst of the political arena together, and they have supported each other over the years — even after Biden shoulders the heavy burden of the U.S. presidency in 2021. So when it comes to darling, it looks like the president and first lady have suppressed it in the White House.
