About the song…
This Ring was the first wedding song that I had written and it was actually for my own wedding. Of all of my original wedding songs, this is the one that is nearest and dearest to my heart and the song that started what is now known as T Carter Music. I wanted a song that captured my feelings and journey in life of finding my soulmate. This is when I found out that songwriting can be theraputic but I also struggled to put my feelings and thoughts into words. With guitar in hand, I began playing with a simple melody that eventually became the intro to This Ring. I then began working on lyrics and chord progressions that would accompany the intro. I believe I had the title of the song “This Ring” before I had written any of the other lyrics. The song began to take shape when I wrote the chorus lyrics “In my life, I can see…that you were made for me…” This would lead to the symbolic relevance of the ring and my commitment to love, devotion, dedication, etc…”With this ring, I’m giving you my all…”
I performed This Ring to my lovely bride on June 1st, 2001. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding that took place on property that my grandparents owned. It was a very emotional moment for us. It was a beautiful day with our family and friends and little did I know the impact that the song would make in the years to come. Fast forward to 2006. I had not played my guitar in almost 3 years. I decided to sit on the porch one day and play a little when my wife, Carrie, asked me to play our wedding song. Reluctantly I obliged. Afterwards, she told me that I should record the song and that other people may want to use it for their wedding day. After months of consideration, I did a home recording of This Ring and sent it to a Nashville studio producer and recording engineer. When I came back a couple of weeks later I was stunned to hear the polished and professional version that the studio did with my song.
With a single wedding song in hand, I was excited to see the opportunites that would come if I could find a way to market my product. Within another few months I had built a tiny website and was selling single copies of This Ring that I would burn from my home computer. To my surprise, sales started to skyrocket and I was sending copies of This Ring all over the world. It was at this time I realized that I was on to something and that I had better write more wedding songs. I began researching they types of music and most requested music for wedding ceremonies. Within a month I had ideas and had written two more songs. Dance With Me, and Here We Stand were immediately recoreded and added to the collection. But, it was This Ring that started it all musically for T Carter Music Inc. It was something I didn’t plan. To me it was just a song I had written for my wife. To the world, it became something that would capture the hearts of many wedding couples. What a blessing this song has been.
