Coast students spend Valentine’s Day with seniors

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – Coast High School students showed their love to seniors on Valentine’s Day Monday.

Health science students from the Harrison County Career and Technology Center visited the Summerfield Senior Housing in Gulfport and came with gifts.

“We just wanted to help in the community and let everyone know that we do think about them and that they won’t be forgotten even during a small holiday like Valentine’s Day,” said student Makayla Nelson.

Students have been collecting candles, puzzles, blankets and more in preparation for this heartfelt holiday.

“We want to make sure no one is left behind and make sure everyone feels kindness in times like today, and kindness really matters,” said student Saylor Wright.

The group shared packages of kindness and care with approximately 80 residents.

“For most of us, we’re not leaving here,” resident Marilyn Depperschmidt told WLOX. “We really appreciate having them come in and bring us something like this.”

The special visit took place on Monday around 10:30 am.

“Even though we are not their immediate family, we still love them,” added student Isabella Robrechd.
