Candy stores gear up for Valentine’s Day craze

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – Valentine’s Day is almost here. Spending on Valentine’s Day was lower last year compared to pre-pandemic years, but this year things are picking up quickly.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and candy stores are getting ready to meet the demand.

Chrissy Cresson, owner of La Passión Artisan Chocolates, said this year has been busier than ever.

“We’re looking at the numbers, where we’re only in our third year, and it’s tripled,” Cressen said.

It’s a change of pace, as candy stores have really been affected during the pandemic.

“We’ve slowed down a lot during COVID and we’ve really had to cobble together helpers to help with chocolate and stuff in the store because we make everything by hand, but we’ve been busy during that time,” Cressen said. .

Pecan House employee Sandy Dearman said their store remained open during the pandemic thanks to the support from locals during these challenging times.

“We are fortunate that we have great customers who come to support us on a regular basis,” Dillman said.

Dillman said the store sells not just desserts this Valentine’s Day, but items like jewelry and candles made by local artists.

“So, dad would come in with the kids, which I’ve had a couple of times over the holidays,” Dillman said.

Valentine’s Day sales were very low last year due to COVID-19, but this year’s sales should boom.

The candy store recommends pre-ordering candy before the Monday holiday.
