JACKSON, Tenn., Feb. 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store, with its 55-year history of welcoming and serving international, national and community neighbors, will host several events in February. A special event. These will include a Black History Month program and an official Valentine’s Day dining experience, in addition to a special unveiling at the restaurant’s ice cream counter.

“Each event in the program reflects our mission to provide the community with a place to connect, learn and share soul-nourishing food,” said Brooks Shaw, general manager of Old Country Store.

February 11: Black History Lunch and Learn – Lane Principal Logan Hampton discusses Freshman Fourth

As part of the Jackson-Madison County Bicentennial, the Old Country Store will be hosting a Black History Lunch and Learn in Delta Hall on Friday, February 11, 2022, from noon to 2 p.m. Guest speaker and Lane College president Logan Hampton will discuss the “freshman” and Woolworth sit-ins during Jackson’s civil rights movement. Lunch will be served in special Black History themed lunch boxes for $8. Tickets are available at

The Old Country Store opened its Faith-Courage-Sacrifice-Liberty exhibit in February 2020, featuring Lane College students Shirlene Mercer, Ernest Brooks Sr., Henry Moses, and Kimmie Davis, among others, as they sit “October 27, 1960” The lunch counter at the FW Woolworth’s Store (formerly at the current location of Jackson’s City Hall). The exhibit includes three original chairs from the Woolworth’s store in the 1960s.

February 11, 12, 14: Valentine’s Day Exclusive Dining

Couples are invited to a romantic three-course dinner on Valentine’s Day weekend, with reservations available on Friday 11 February, Saturday 12 February and Monday 14 February 2022. Guests can reserve space at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm at the 1837 Providence House in Casey Jones Village. For starters, guests can choose between tossed winter salad or roasted red peppers and smoky gouda bisque. Entree menu options include filet mignon, pesto or grilled chicken breast with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted evergreen beans. Homemade desserts offer a choice between Tiramisu, Homemade Chocolate Ganache Cheesecake or Strawberry Shortcake. February 15: Free ice cream for guests celebrating the Reimagined Ice Cream Shop

After Valentine’s Day celebrations, the community is invited to celebrate the refreshment of the Old Country Store’s ice cream counter on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. From 3pm to 6pm that day, guests can enjoy a free scoop of pre-selected ice cream ice cream while sampling the specialty store changes that will continue to welcome the world to Jackson for years to come.
