This is the time of year to love, whether with a romantic partner, family or friends. But it can also be an expensive time.

While there are luxury restaurants in Massachusetts that cook delicious multi-course meals, businesses across the state also offer more affordable options.

Below is a list of Valentine’s Day date ideas created with budget in mind. You’ll find prices ranging from free to $50, and activities ranging from ice skating to homemade deli boxes.

Springfield’s BarKaya has a special event on Monday, which is Valentine’s Day this year.

Customers can grab a bowl of ramen for $10 between 5pm and 10pm, the perfect meal to warm up to in winter.

“Experience our Spicy Seafood, Pork Belly, Miso Chicken with Pine Nuts, Japanese Chicken Curry or Beef Scallion Ramen for just $10!” the restaurant writes on its website.

Looking for a sweet treat?

Donut Homies in Worcester offers DIY Valentine’s Day gift boxes. Customers can choose from four heart-shaped doughnuts with a choice of three icings, strawberry, vanilla and chocolate and three toppings, pink sprinkles, mini chocolate chips and fruity pebbles.

Package comes with cutlery and piping bag. Boxes can be picked up after 10am on February 11th or February 14th, or delivered at Worcester for an additional $5.

“Pre-order now to keep your box. Message me on the date of your choice, pickup or delivery date, and payment will be sent to the reserve kit,” the store posted on Facebook.

Donut Homies is located at the Worcester Public Market, so it’s a good place to eat inside during the colder months. Once you’re done eating, the date can go on to shop at the many local stores.

If you and your partner love deli boards, Kured in Boston might be for you.

Guests can even make a custom deli box for $18.99 to $33.99.

“Be your own deli artist and customize a box to your liking. Add any meats, cheeses and other stuff you like,” reads the menu. “If you do not select all 3 options, we will increase the portion size of your choice to fit the box.”

Kured was founded by two Boston College graduates with a strong belief that cooked food brings people together: the perfect mission for Valentine’s Day.

Bookworms can enjoy a comfortable date at The Montague Bookmill.

The bookshop is open every Monday from 11am to 5pm in an 1842 Gristmill on the banks of the Sawmill River. When you’re done reading or picking out books, there are other activities around the store, including a music store called Turn it Up. Sells CDs and vinyl records, and art gallery Sawmill River Arts.

Located in the same building as the bookstore, The Lady Killigrew serves snacks like sandwiches, as well as coffee and beer at affordable prices. The café is open until 9pm, so you and your date can hang out until the evening.

Hudson’s New City Microcreamery will be hosting an event called “Valentine’s After get off work – ‘Love is Sweet'” on Saturday, February 12th and Sunday, February 13th, where they’ll be offering drink and milkshake specials.

Tickets for the event are $14 and offer drinks like alcoholic milkshakes or hot chocolate. Vegetarian options are also available.

“So grab your date, your lover, or whoever you want to celebrate this Valentine’s Day with you, and join us for some sweet fun,” the ice cream parlour wrote.

Free Play, a Worcester pub, will be open six days a week in September, featuring some of the best vintage arcade games from the 80s and 90s.

If you’re looking for an outdoor activity, despite the cold, you might want to consider ice skating at Frog Pond in Boston Common.

Entry is only $6 for skaters over 58 inches, so a date for two is only $12. If you don’t have skates, the pond also offers rentals for $12 per pair.

More outdoor ice rinks can be found at Worcester Park. Times depend on the day, so be sure to check online before you go.

“The 12,000-square-foot ice rink in New York City opened in 2012 and is 4,000 square feet larger than the rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City. The Oval has pipe music, skateboard rentals, franchises, holiday lights, and more, making it a fun and Affordable family-friendly activity,” reads the city’s website.

Admission and rental is only $5 per person. The ice rink is also professionally maintained by the DCU Centre’s management team.

If you and your partner love art, Boston has many museums that offer educational dating spots.

Two tickets to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, $40, give guests access to two floors of the famous collection and romantic views from the courtyard.

Student tickets are cheaper at $13 each and seniors are $18 each.

The Museum of Fine Arts is in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, and admission is $25 for adults, $10 for ages 7-17, and free for kids 6 and under.

If you’re looking for something even cheaper, the Worcester Historical Museum offers free tickets for the entire month of February.

“The Worcester Historical Museum is the city’s only institution fully dedicated to local history. The museum includes a research library with more than 7,000 titles, an archive containing thousands of documents and a range of artifacts,” the website said. wrote.

If you’re in western Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams offers tickets for $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and veterans, and $12 for students.

There’s nothing more classic than a movie date. Some of the movies currently in theaters include “Spider-Man: Homeless,” “West Side Story,” “Encanto,” and “Redemption Love.”

If you want to support local businesses, Massachusetts also has many historic movie theaters such as Amherst Cinema, The Screening Room in Newburyport, Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline and Somerville Theatre. These cinemas offer some of the same and often unique films that are not shown in other cinemas. Tickets are also about the same as larger theaters.

For those looking to stay home, whether because of a cold or the coronavirus, there are plenty of romance movies on streaming services.
