A Night of Love Songs Captures the Spirit of Valentine’s Day – Troy Messenger


To say that The Studio in downtown Troy was packed Monday night for its frequent Valentine’s 2022 concerts would be an understatement.

The rush before show time was to accommodate those who came to enjoy “Valentine’s Cabaret: A Night of Love Songs.”

“The turnout was phenomenal,” said Brenda Campbell, director of the sponsoring Johnson Center for the Arts. “We were expecting a lot of audiences, but we didn’t know it. We were delighted that so many people came forward to listen to this talented college student under the tutelage of our very own Scott Sexton.”

Campbell said the audience was very attentive throughout the concert.

“You probably heard a pin drop,” she said. “It was so quiet, it was loud when a bag of chips was wrinkled.

Campbell said that after the concert, the audience broke out into warm applause.

“The pride in the talented students and the pride in Scott in the community is hugely appreciated,” Campbell said. “Frequency members show so much emotion in their singing, both as a group and as individuals. They Capturing the spirit of the day with a love song, Valentine’s Day. “Night of Love Songs” is the perfect way to end Valentine’s Day 2022.

The Valentine’s Day program featured love songs familiar to ensemble and soloists, including “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, “Crossing the Rainbow”, “Crazy” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. The concert ends with the frequency tradition of “Precious Lord”.

Frequency members include Lacey Mondoe, Ellie Russell, Victoria Tidwell, Sarah Lynn White, Erin Cobe, Lina Daniel, Hailey Everett, Shelby Kerns, LJ Miller, Chris Ahlf, Trace Bush, Kden Kennedy, Frank Studinka, Kyle Boatwright, Zachary Briley and Jack Lyon. Scott Sexton, director.

The Valentine’s Day concert is sponsored by the Johnson Arts Center and the Alabama Arts Council.
