11 futures bets we love for Valentine’s Day

Cupid’s big day comes a day after the big game. If you usually wait until after the football season to start making Valentine’s Day plans, the Rams and Bengals will give you about 90 minutes after the game on Sunday night.

This Valentine’s Day comes after the longest and most staked NFL season in history. The Rams (-4) finished with a thrilling 23-20 victory over the Bengals. At SoFi Stadium, love is everywhere.

Betting sites are obsessed with the outcome of the game. Spreads are bi-directional, Bengals cover +4, and books take vig as profit. The books are winning at odds (-200) for the Rams, with a total under 48.5. Mattress Mack lost $9.5 million on two separate bets against the Bengals at +170 with Caesars Sportsbook.

Looking to the future: Super Bowl 57 odds and best bets

be a red day

Those unlucky with their Super Bowl NFL betting stakes can hope for a quick rebound today. Maybe their special someone will deliver chocolates (of any kind), flowers, a romantic dinner or winning NBA bets on Valentine’s Day night.

Masks, not so much.

While some 31.4 million bettors are hoping to end in black on Sunday, everyone wants to land on Monday and/or red Monday.

Even if you’re unlucky and will place your favorite order at GrubHub tonight, we’ll warm your heart with our favorite 11 bets for the rest of 2022.

11 bets we love for the rest of 2022

For this list, we’ll do it in chronological order. Start in six days. Here are the winners of some of the big events and awards we expect to see between now and the end of the year.

11 Futures Bets We Love for Valentine's Day: Daytona 500, Masters & More 1

2022 Daytona 500

Our choice: Kurt Busch (DraftKings +1700)

buzzing: This coming Sunday afternoon, the green flag will drop for the America’s Big Game, just 2.5 miles from the world’s greatest beach. Kurt Busch won the Daytona 500 in 2017, albeit leading by only one lap — the final lap. Busch will play for Michael Jordan’s 23XI team this season. He’s 43 years old, the same age as Tom Brady when Brady won his seventh and final (now, anyway) Super Bowl.

If you’re looking for another game, add Tyler Reddick to your worksheet. Reddick is driving the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Richard Childress. He is a two-time Xfinity Series Champion. Busch also finished in the top three with a +380 in DraftKings.

2022 NCAA Men’s Final Four

Our choice: Kentucky Wildcats (FanDuel +800)

buzzing: There are only four Sundays left to choose Sunday. Oops! Kentucky has improved recently, and the Wildcats put them together at the right time. Kentucky trails Auburn in the SEC, but will be the No. 1 seed in the Big Dance and take the SEC title. A favorable seed in the NCAA tournament could give the Cats their first championship since 2012.

Wood Award

Our choice: Oscar Tshiebwe, Kentucky (DraftKings +550)

buzzing: Here’s a breakdown of our senior college basketball handicap player Dan Kilbridge: “Since these things started to matter in the mid-’80s, Chibway is trying to set every rebounding record. There’s been some one-game records from guys like Craig. There isn’t a dominant player in the country this year, and there’s definitely no consensus-best team.

“Kentucky has the same chance as anyone to cut the net, and Tshiebwe’s dominance on the glass puts him on a crowded wooden board.”

11 Futures Bets We Love For Valentine's Day: Daytona 500, Masters & More 3

2022 Masters

Our choice: Zander Schauffele ( +2000 BetMGM )

buzzing: Golf’s first major of the year is April 7-10 at Augusta National Golf Course. The true “tradition with a difference” of the Masters is “bet”. For decades, money has flowed back and forth among gallery patrons. Betting on the Masters often produces the biggest golfers of the year on the top legal betting apps.

The most casual bettors are familiar with pitches and fields. This year, Jon Rahm is an early golf betting favorite as he is No. 1 in the world, and he won his first major in 2021 (U.S. Open) and has three other games in the mix. Top in the competition. But his current price is too high. We love Zand Schauffele. His price is right. His game suits Augusta. In the past 3 years, he has completed T3, T17 and T2.

2022 Kentucky Derby

Our choice: Happy Smile (Caesars Sportsbook +1600)

buzzing: The first Saturday in May once again belongs to horse racing. The 148th race at the $3 million Kentucky Derby on May 7, 2022 will have 20 starts. A total of 30 horses have earned qualifying points to date. Classic Causeway leads with 16, while Pappacap and Epicenter (2 top horses in the US) have 14 each.

The future betting pool for the third Kentucky Derby closed Sunday night. Crazy timing. Smile Happy is our early pick, at 16-1 according to the latest odds from Caesars Sportsbook (formerly William Hill). Last November 29th, Kenny McPeek pony won the $400,000 Kentucky Derby Club’s 3 ¼ length championship at Churchill Downs. He is expected to make his debut next weekend as a 3-year-old.

11 Futures Bets We Love For Valentine's Day: Daytona 500, Masters & More 4

NBA Finals

Our choice: Phoenix Suns (SugarHouse +500)

buzzing: The defending NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks are just two games behind the top of the Eastern Conference, and the top-ranked Miami Heat have six teams in five games or less. The Philadelphia 76ers signed James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets at the trade deadline in exchange for the disgruntled Ben Simmons of the world. After the trade, the 76ers’ odds of winning the NBA title rose from +1400 to +700. The Nets remain the league’s favorite, +400.

The Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors are tied for the Western Conference favorites. The Suns came home empty-handed in last year’s NBA Finals, but they got over it quickly. They have the NBA’s best +8.2 net rating, the league’s best record, and they’re healthy. However, as of this writing, they don’t have the highest odds in the NBA.

That’s very valuable to our NBA handicap player, Mark Strowman. CP3 and Devin Booker have been rolling the year, including starting the 2022 calendar year with a 19-2 record. The NBA playoffs begin with play-in games from April 12-15. The real playoffs will begin on April 16. The seven-game NBA Finals will end on June 19. A good hedge to win it all is Miami at +800 with BetMGM.

11 Futures Bets We Love for Valentine's Day: Daytona 500, Masters & More 5

Our choice: Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers (Draft Kings +160)

buzzing: a high price. But sometimes, you have to take free money. Over the past two months, Embiid has been the best player on the planet, averaging 33.6 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists. Oh, and the 76ers are the best 19-7 in the East in that span, and are already in the top 6 of the East.

Harden’s arrival will only help, and we believe Embiid will fend off Giannis, Nikola Jokic and Stephen Curry in the closing stages to win his first MVP.

Stanley Cup Final

Our choice: Florida Panthers: (SugarHouse +500)

buzzing: If there is a Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, it will be on June 30. This means that the NHL betting season ends after the NBA Finals. The NHL is a “winter sport”. There are several important dates on the NHL calendar between now and then, most notably the March 21 trade deadline and the May 2 playoff start.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, a two-time defending Stanley Cup champion, are at +750 odds on FanDuel, the site’s second overall pick behind the Colorado Avalanche. While Avs are a tempting option, they are way too expensive at +450. Colorado has the most wins in the NHL and could easily reach the cup finals. Our hockey handicap expert Adrian Dater loves the Panthers, who are tied for the second-most wins in the NHL at age 32. Florida State is +500 at SugarHouse, making this a very valuable game not to be missed.

world series

11 Futures Bets We Love for Valentine's Day: Daytona 500, Masters & More 6

Our choice: New York Mets (PointsBet +1100)

buzzing: We hope there will be an MLB season. Now that it’s Valentine’s Day, we hope love and baseball find a way out. Our senior handicap player Adam Thompson leaned toward the Amazin team to win it all. To be sure, the Mets have to figure out a way to outrun the Dodgers. Despite spending a lot of money in free agency, they have struggled the past few seasons. That being said, New York’s front-line rotation gives it an edge over just about anyone.

The offense is a Who’s Who of sluggers who just need to live up to expectations. Having Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer in four of the seven games in the playoff series is a good choice. If the offense can stay the course, it’s a good price for the Mets to get the glory.

Heisman Trophy

11 Futures Bets We Love for Valentine's Day: Daytona 500, Masters & More 7

Our choice: CJ Stroud, Ohio (PointsBet +450)

buzzing: Quarterback CJ Stroud returns for his sophomore season after finishing fourth in the Heisman voting with 4,435 passing yards and 44 touchdowns. Stroud has made great strides all season, especially his accuracy. He started off a bit shaky, but ended up with some great performances, none better than the Rose Bowl. He started his 2022 Heisman season with an 80.4 percent pass rate for 573 yards and six touchdowns against Utah. He did it without top targets Garrett Wilson and Chris Olaf, who opted out to prepare for the NFL draft, and showed how dangerous this offense could become again next season.

college football playoffs

Our choice: Ohio State University (FanDuel +800)

buzzing: The door is wide open for the Buckeyes and their quarterback in 2022, and Kilbridge believes the Buckeyes are ready to break it like Kur Edd. Jim Harbaugh flirted with the NFL for about a month before deciding to stay in Ann Arbor, but his intrigue unnerved the Wolverines and his staff.

While SEC powers often talk about “reloading instead of rebuilding,” both Alabama and Georgia are set to suffer big losses this offseason. Ohio State presents the Big Ten with the best chance for another Heisman and a national championship. At the SEC, we love Ole Miss.
